Ford Partners with Resideo for EV Home Power Project
Energy conservation is a huge part of Ford’s push towards electric vehicles, and helping their customers cut down on fossil fuels isn’t enough for the ambitious automaker. Through a recently announced partnership with Resideo Technologies, Inc, Ford will be striving to help EV drivers manage their home energy and expenses more efficiently with the products turned out by their innovative new joint simulation project called the “EV-Home Power Partnership.”
The EV-Home Power Partnership was created to explore vehicle-to-home (V2H) energy management that will help customers to save money on their monthly electric bills and reduce strain on the U.S. electric grid without compromising homeowner comfort. As the first automaker in the U.S. to introduce a full-size electric truck capable of bi-directional charging for the home, Ford isn’t new to the world of creative energy solutions. This partnership with Resideo will help the company to take that technology that allowed drivers to turn their F-150 Lightnings into home generators and massively expand it.
Resideo is a global provider for home comfort solutions, First Alert security and safety, and residential load management programs for utilities. Home energy management value for their customers is something that they’re also exploring, and partnering with Ford and their lineup of electric vehicles opens doors for them that weren’t possible with internal combustion engine vehicles.
Resideo’s smart thermostats are the pivotal point of the EV Home Power Partnership project. The two companies’ teams are working to integrate these systems with the energy stored in the battery of the F-150 Lightning to power the home’s heating and cooling systems with smart and efficient technology. Making this technology a reality requires Resideo’s software to enable cooperation between the truck and the home. When it’s complete, you’ll be able to heat and cool your house with your electric truck.
“Driving electric is unlocking an entirely new world of personal energy management that could not only save our customers time and money, but also help support a more sustainable energy grid,” said Bill Crider, head of global charging and energy services, Ford Motor Company. “Successful vehicle-to-home energy management solutions would give Ford EV drivers as well as utilities and power companies the confidence to accelerate future vehicle-to-grid services never-before thought possible with traditional vehicles.”
“The two largest contributors to an individual’s carbon-emission footprint are usually their car and the heating and cooling of their home,” said Dana Huth, EVP and Chief Revenue Officer, Resideo. “With this EV Power Partnership project, we can discover new ways for F-150 Lightning owners to utilize their EV battery to power their home’s heating and cooling and to help build a home energy management strategy that can optimize their home’s comfort and energy use. By creating energy-efficient ecosystems between trusted global brands, our Resideo Grid Services team can help ensure a more resilient electric grid for the community, prepare it for more renewables and deliver energy savings for consumers.”
