Ford Performance Crushes 2024 Baja 1000 With Dual Victories
In the unforgiving deserts of Baja California, Ford Performance achieved an exceptional milestone at the 2024 Baja 1000, claiming wins in two classes. The Bronco DR and Ranger Raptor conquered hundreds of grueling miles to secure their places at the top, reinforcing Ford’s legacy in one of the toughest off-road races in the world.
The Bronco DR shone in the Heavy Metal Limited class, further cementing its reputation as a purpose-built desert racer inspired by Baja’s demanding terrain. Meanwhile, the Ranger Raptor proved its mettle in the Stock Mid-Size class, showcasing the capability of its production-based design.
The Bronco DR’s victory marks its third consecutive win this year, a testament to its Baja-bred design. The race spanned 864 punishing miles, with Brad Lovell and Roger Lovell spearheading the initial stages, followed by Jason Hutter and Paul Blangsted. Jason Scherer and Jason Berger took the reins for the final leg, navigating treacherous conditions to bring the Bronco DR across the finish line.
The Bronco DR was created with Baja in its DNA, embodying the rugged spirit and versatility that define the Bronco name. For Lovell, the race was an opportunity to contribute to a legacy that has long been synonymous with off-road excellence.
The Ranger Raptor’s triumph demonstrates how race-ready engineering can enhance real-world capability. Equipped with advanced FOX suspension, a robust chassis, and a twin-turbo 3.0L EcoBoost engine, the Ranger Raptor took on Baja’s challenges with the same features available in its production counterpart.
Drivers Loren Healy, Eric Davis, John Williams III, and Bailey Campbell expertly navigated the 736-mile course, overcoming obstacles like silt beds, jagged rocks, and rain-soaked trails. The #773 Ranger Raptor, built to SCORE’s Stock Mid-Size regulations, featured enhancements to optimize safety and durability while collecting critical performance data to inform future developments.
The Baja 1000 is a grueling battle against the elements, and this year’s race was no exception. With jagged rocks, snow, rain, and relentless darkness, the course pushed competitors to their limits. Ford’s Bronco DR and Ranger Raptor rose to the challenge, earning victories through perseverance and unmatched performance.
“Baja is the ultimate test,” said Brad Lovell. “It doesn’t give out wins—you earn them by facing every challenge head-on. That’s what makes it so special, and that’s why Ford’s success here means so much.”
With another chapter of dominance written in Baja’s sands, Ford Performance continues to prove its vehicles can conquer the world’s toughest terrains while inspiring future innovations for everyday drivers.
