Ford and Lincoln Impress in 2025 J.D. Power U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study

Ford and Lincoln have made impressive strides in the 2025 J.D. Power U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study, with both brands improving their rankings over last year. Ford jumped 10 spots to secure 13th place, while Lincoln saw a six-position increase, moving up to 19th.
The 2025 J.D. Power U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study assesses the reliability and long-term durability of vehicles based on feedback from original owners of 2022 model-year cars, after three years of ownership. The survey measures issues across multiple categories, including performance, features, and overall dependability. This year’s improvement reflects Ford and Lincoln’s commitment to enhancing vehicle quality and customer satisfaction.
“We’re encouraged by the progress we’re making to improve quality while staying focused on tougher testing and rigorous monitoring of new vehicles to make sure they are as good as they can be when they leave the factory,” said Josh Halliburton, Ford’s executive director of quality. “We believe these actions will result in better long-term ownership experiences for our customers, like we saw in this year’s Vehicle Dependability Study.”
Ford’s ranking improvement is a testament to the brand’s ongoing efforts to refine vehicle reliability, which has long been a key factor for customers considering long-term ownership. The automaker has emphasized tougher testing and improved monitoring during production to ensure that new vehicles meet the highest standards of dependability.
This year’s study is part of a broader trend for Ford, following their strong performance in the 2024 J.D. Power U.S. Initial Quality Study, where the Bronco Sport was ranked highest in initial quality among small SUVs. These back-to-back improvements suggest that Ford is not only focusing on making vehicles that perform well when they first hit the road but also on ensuring they stay reliable as they age.
For Lincoln, the six-place jump to 19th also signals improvements in their vehicle quality and dependability. This progress is important for a luxury brand, where consumers expect both performance and longevity from their investments.
Both brands have made notable strides in customer satisfaction, and this year’s rankings reflect that continued dedication. As automakers compete to deliver the best driving experience, these findings show that Ford and Lincoln are headed in the right direction in terms of both initial quality and long-term reliability.
With continued improvements in dependability and quality, Ford and Lincoln are likely to strengthen their positions in future studies, further proving their commitment to meeting the needs of today’s car buyers.
