In a monumental step towards a more sustainable future, Ecolab, a global leader in water, hygiene, and infection prevention solutions, has partnered with Ford Pro, Ford’s commercial division, to spearhead the electrification of its sales and service fleet in North America. This strategic move is part of Ecolab’s ambitious plan to achieve complete fleet electrification by 2030, with the initial focus set on California, aiming to convert all sales and service vehicles to electric by 2025.

Rooted in a century-old partnership that began in 1925, Ford and Ecolab’s relationship has evolved from water conservation initiatives at Ford to the current electrification efforts at Ecolab. This renewed commitment comes in the wake of both companies pledging to create positive impacts, progress towards carbon neutrality, and foster sustainable growth. The collaboration is set to break new ground, with Ecolab deploying over 1,000 Ford F-150 Lightning Pro trucks and Mustang Mach-E SUVs, marking what is poised to be the largest all-electric sales and service fleet in California.

Ecolab’s move to electrify its fleet is a pivotal step in its overarching goal to achieve net-zero emissions globally by 2050. This initiative aligns seamlessly with Ford Pro’s comprehensive suite of charging and telematics software, designed to optimize vehicle performance and enhance fleet productivity. As Ted Cannis, Ford Pro CEO, states, “Together, we’re showing that sustainability is good for the bottom line and the environment.”

With over 10,000 light-duty vehicles in its North American fleet, 95% of which are Ford vehicles, Ecolab has been a steadfast partner of Ford for decades. This collaboration has transcended beyond business into shared values of sustainability. Christophe Beck, Chairman and CEO of Ecolab, emphasizes, “This next phase of our relationship will help us move quickly and at scale with the goal of improving profits through renewable energy and EV solutions for the betterment of our employees, business, and the environment.”

Ecolab estimates significant cost reductions by going electric, with internal models forecasting a lower total cost of ownership compared to traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. The company anticipates saving approximately 50% in annual fuel costs per 2023 F-150 Lightning Pro truck, translating to around $1,400 in fuel savings per vehicle annually.

Beyond the financial advantages, the move to electric vehicles aligns with Ecolab and Ford Pro’s commitment to environmental sustainability. Ford, with support from collaborators like Ecolab, has already saved over 186 billion gallons of water since 2000, contributing to its goal of using only fresh water for human consumption.

Ford Pro’s productivity software and service solutions are integral to optimizing fleet operations. Through a survey conducted with Sonoma County Winegrowers, Ford Pro’s telematics solutions demonstrated the potential for substantial efficiency improvements. Respondents estimated a 49% reduction in idling hours, a 37% reduction in time spent tracking maintenance schedules, and a 58% reduction in time spent tracking fuel usage.

As Ecolab transitions its fleet to electric, Ford Pro’s productivity software and service solutions will play a crucial role in managing and maintaining the California fleet efficiently.

The collaboration between Ecolab and Ford Pro marks a transformative journey towards sustainability, demonstrating the power of long-standing partnerships in shaping a greener and more efficient future. This alliance not only underscores the commitment of both companies to environmental stewardship but also sets a compelling example for the broader automotive and sustainability industries. As Ecolab accelerates its fleet electrification with Ford Pro, it sends a resounding message that sustainable practices are not just commendable but also financially prudent, ushering in an era where business growth and ecological responsibility go hand in hand.
