Ford GT Supercar Receives Improvements For 2020 and New Limited Editions

Ford recently announced the latest series of upgrades set to debut on the all-new Ford GT Supercar. Not only will the 2020 GT experience more horsepower than ever before, but it also received improvements to the cooling system. Those who eagerly await for the 2020 GT can now also choose a Liquid Carbon edition as well as a new heritage edition that pays homage to the 1969 Le Mans win.

“Ford GT continues to be the pinnacle of Ford performance,” said Ed Krenz, Ford Performance chief program engineer. “GT is always the ultimate expression of Ford racing innovation, and as we know from the 1966 Le Mans through today, that means constantly raising our game for our customers as well as earning the checkered flag.”

As the Ford Performance team continues to make strides towards technological advancements, the 2020 GT will see improvements to its engine. The 3.5L EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 can produce an extra 13 horsepower from the 2017-19 model for a total of 660 horsepower. The engine also features a broader torque band and revised engine calibration.

The 2020 GT also received updates to the engine cooling and airflow system. The new model includes new buttress air ducts designed to increase airflow by 50 percent and larger intercoolers.

For enhanced handling, the 2020 GT includes increased suspension damping while in track mode. The upgraded supercar will also receive the premium Akrapovič titanium exhaust as standard equipment, resulting in a 9 pound weight reduction from the previous exhaust system used.

New for the 2020 model, customers will be able to choose the Ford GT Liquid Carbon. This limited edition GT will be completely free of paint, covered in a special clear-coat instead. This edition will also come standard with carbon fiber wheels.

“This next chapter in the Ford GT story allows us to fully demonstrate our mastery in both the art and science of carbon fiber craftsmanship and finishing,” said Angus Smith, General Manager of Multimatic Niche Vehicles, North America. “The results of this ongoing partnership between Multimatic and Ford Performance speak for themselves, as each visually stunning and unique Liquid Carbon GT is a manufacturing marvel, showcasing the characteristics and nuances inherent in carbon fiber composites.”

Ford Performance is also releasing a new iconic heritage inspired design for the GT. In honor of the 1968-69 Le Mans-winning GT40, the GT heritage edition will receive the number 6 with a black pinstripe dividing the blue and orange colors.

“Our team is very focused on delivering a car that exceeds customer expectations,” said Mike Severson, Ford GT program manager. “The black pinstripe and carbon fiber wheels have been highly requested with the Gulf livery, so we committed to making that happen.”

Customers can receive deliveries of the upgraded 2020 Ford GT on an ongoing basis until production wraps up in 2022.
