All New Explorers Are On Their Way

Ford is introducing two new models of the mainstay of the Ford fleet of SUVs, the Explorer. In addition to all of the standard features available on the base Explorer, these two new models will offer new technologies that will make every drive easier and more enjoyable, with unique powertrain options for both that will provide specially engineered power and efficiency. These specialized Explorer models aim to meet the expectations and unique needs of any driver.

Explorer ST:

Built to kick out the power, the Explorer ST model is designed with a 3.0-liter EcoBoost engine with an estimated 400 horsepower and 415 lb.-ft. of torque. In addition to the fresh ST feel and handling of the Explorer, Ed Krenz has said that it is the most fun Ford SUV ever. “More than anything,” he said, “it’s just a hell of a lot of fun to drive.” In order to beef out the fun, the ST comes standard with a distinctive black mesh grille insert, roof-rack side rails, skid plate elements, and liftgate applique. Unmistakably ST, the new Explorer is ready to perform.

Explorer Hybrid:

Hybrids don’t have to be small or under-powered, at least not anymore. The new Explorer Hybrid is built to offer the freedom to drive with fewer restrictions to cargo, power, and comfort. With the new Hybrid, Ford has incorporated a 3.3-liter hybrid powertrain with an estimated 500 miles between gas station fill-ups. In order to power this SUV, the Explorer features a liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery. In order to maintain the extensive cargo options of the Explorer, the battery will be mounted in the body beneath the second-row seats.

Ford expects both of these models to be in showrooms for sale this summer
