Mustang Family Adds All-Electric Member: Mustang Mach-E

The Ford Mustang legacy has been running strong for 55 years since its debut in 1964. Moving forward with the untamed spirit of the Ford Mustang in the direction of the future, Ford revealed on Sunday, November 17, 2019, the all-electric SUV Mustang Mach-E.

“At the first-ever Detroit auto show, Henry Ford said he was working on something that would strike like forked lightning,” said Bill Ford, executive chairman, Ford Motor Company. “That was the Model T. Today, the Ford Motor Company is proud to unveil a car that strikes like forked lightning all over again. The all-new, all-electric Mustang Mach-E. It’s fast. It’s fun. It’s freedom. For a new generation of Mustang owners.”

The Mustang Mach-E offers many customization options to choose from with everything Ford knows its customers want in a vehicle: speed, cargo space, and the latest technology. Customers can find the Mach-E available in rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive along with a standard battery or an extended-range battery available. Looking for a little more umph? The Mustang Mach-E will also be released in two performance versions as well: Mustang Mach-E GT and the GT Performance Edition.

For customers who are looking for more efficiency, the rear-wheel drive paired with the extended-range battery is expected to offer 300 miles per full charge. For those looking for more power, the all-wheel drive system that will be available when the Mustang Mach-E is released in late 2020 has been put to the Ford tough test. This all-wheel drive system was tested in the elements and tuned to give superior traction no matter the terrain. As the first production vehicle to be tuned by the Ford Performance team, the Mach-E AWD version will offer 332 horsepower and 417 lb.-ft. of torque. For those who want a kick in acceleration, the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT is targeted to hit 0 to 60 mph in less than 4 seconds, and the Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition competes with the Porsche 911 GTS, accelerating from 0 to 60 in the mid 3 second range. Both performance models produce 459 horsepower and 612 lb.-ft of torque.

“The Mustang Mach-E wholeheartedly rejects the notion that electric vehicles are only good at reducing gas consumption,” said Hau Thai-Tang, Ford’s chief product development and purchasing officer. “People want a car that’s thrilling to drive, that looks gorgeous and that can easily adapt to their lifestyle – and the Mustang Mach-E delivers all of this in unmatched style.”

Going fast shouldn’t mean you have to compromise on space, so Ford designed the Mach-E to seat 5 adults comfortably and supply ample storage space. The Mach-E offers a maximum cargo space of 59.6 cubic feet of space in addition to a drainable front trunk storage unit amounting to 4.8 feet. Whether you want to store your carry-on bag or load it up with ice and keep drinks cold for a trip to the beach, the drainable front trunk space is bound to come in handy.

Ford is also debuting their latest technology with the release of the Mach-E. Enjoy features such as the latest generation of SYNC technology as well as the introduction of Phone As Key technology. The latest generation of SYNC uses predictive technology, to make your drive easier. Learning the primary driver’s behavior, SYNC can prompt the driver to do things they already regularly do such as calling home after work. With the introduction of Phone As Key technology, Ford drivers will be able to unlock and start their vehicle all without even pulling their phone out of their pocket as their phone and car communicate with one another through Bluetooth technology.
